Welcome back to Digital Gravity 🪐
Every Friday, we share strategies to help you level up your sales, marketing, and lead gen.
This week: why the dumbest captions keep winning, and what Millennial vs Gen Z marketing says about where we’re headed.
Enjoy 👇
i ain't reading all that. im happy for you tho, or sorry that happened 💀
There's a trend happening right now that's exposing every brand team in America.
It's "Millennial Marketing vs. Gen Z Marketing" and it's basically:
corporate jargon and how i try to talk to my grandpa so I sound intelligent vs. one sentence equivalent to something that I would say to my groupchat
"elevated consumer experience" vs. "wait lowkey true"
LinkedIn voice vs. TikTok brain rot
And the funniest part? The dumbest caption keeps winning.
Because we are officially in the era of:
shorter captions
dumber jokes
less professionalism
more "LMAOOO wait true"
The Evidence:
Millennial PR: "For 60 years, the Gold Card has been a trusted companion for dining and everyday experiences…"
Gen Z Social: "it's giving your hobbies are eating and traveling."
And somehow the Gen Z version tells me MORE.
Millennial Marketing: A whole cinematic universe about "premium cold coffee experiences" and "ultimate convenience for life on the go."
Gen Z Social: "it's giving spill proof"
That's it. That's the post.
CeraVe 🧴
Millennial PR: Starts discussing "skin-identical ceramides" like I accidentally enrolled in AP Chemistry.
Gen Z Social: "flake free era 💙"
Stanley 🥤
Millennial Marketing: "The locking dual-action lid prevents accidental openings while maintaining a clean sip zone and ergonomic portability—"
Gen Z Social: "leakproof lid - hallelujah. fits in your cupholder - hallelujah." ✨🙏
That caption moved me spiritually more than any product description ever could.
Because nobody wants to read corporate fanfiction anymore. Attention spans are cooked. If your caption has subordinate clauses, you have already lost.
And B2B marketers? Unfortunately, this applies to you, too.
Some SaaS websites genuinely read like: "Leveraging AI-driven end-to-end workflow optimization to maximize operational synergy."
Okay??? What does that MEAN
The company getting the demo booked is not the one writing "Enhanced cross-functional visibility."
It's the one writing: "so your team can stop sending 'just following up on this!' 14 times a day."
Because the same person approving a $50k software contract is ALSO sending TikToks that say "me pretending to work after one task."
2026 marketing is basically:
say less
make it funny
get to the point

And stop writing captions like you're submitting a college discussion post.
