👋👋Goodbye 2025! 👋👋

Hello 2026!!

My favorite season is the first few weeks of a new year.

Everyone’s a little more optimistic than usual, figuring out how they can make this year better.

People everywhere are asking each other, “What’s your New Year’s Resolution?”

I usually tell people fake resolutions, and keep a secret, serious New Year's resolution to myself.

Last year, my joke resolution was that I was going to get extremely beefy and jacked, like the Hulk (I did not accomplish this).

It was an easy laugh and a quick diversion from an actual answer.

But my real resolution, that I kept to myself (until now) was to ‘say yes more.’

I wanted to stop giving ‘maybes’ or ‘nos’ to people when they asked me to attend their housewarming party, or brunch, or game night, etc.

I’ve been a tad shy for most of my life, and I always preferred staying in rather than going out, so I didn’t need to face the awkwardness of socializing with new people.

But I wanted to be better about it and to make new friends, and the only thing stopping me from doing so was saying yes.

So I did just that.

I only allowed myself to say no or to raincheck if I genuinely, really couldn’t make it.

And guess what?

I’m a much happier person.

Saying yes forced me to get out of my comfort zone and put myself in new environments.

It let me meet new, fantastic people that I would never have met if I stayed home.

And in doing so, each social event got easier and easier.

Conversations became a breeze and became fun!

I’m now obsessed with connecting with strangers and meeting new people. All because of my secret New Year's Resolution.

But why didn’t I tell people about it? Why did I keep it a secret?

Because I wanted to keep myself accountable, my growth was my own. I didn’t want anyone to ask about it or to pressure me in any way.

It was my goal to myself, not to anyone else.

I think everyone should keep a real resolution to themselves. Do it for you, and only you.

It could be about your day-to-day, like mine, or also about your work.

Just set personal goals that will impress only you.

“This year (in secret) I will…

  • Finish projects days before the deadline

  • Send out an email newsletter each week (I know someone who can help with this one)

  • Schedule more ‘check-in’ meetings

  • Post on LinkedIn more consistently

  • Take more time for myself when I need it.”

The options are endless.

All I know is, for me to really get something done, my motivation must come from within.

I do it to prove to myself that I can.

No one else needs to know.

If they notice on their own, then that's great! That’s icing on the cake.

But if they don’t, that’s okay too. It’s just for me.

So, if you’re wondering what my New Year's Resolution is for this year…

I want to learn to Cartwheel.

And something else, too. But that one’s a secret.
